On May 12, 2000, Mutabaruka gave a spoken word performance at Ashkenaz in Berkeley, California.

During this 75 minute presentation, Muta reasons about the manifestation of rastafari and the need for a new faculty of interpretation in which the woman is uplifted and given her due respect.  Muta discusses politics, religion and how the Europeans civilized Jamaica, the land they described as a "garden of eden". He reasons about how crack and cocaine have destroyed this garden along with the minds of many young revolutionaries.  Muta also talks about the worst drugs of all-tobacco and McDonald's
