Winston 'Niney' Holness got his Observer label off to a booming start with the release of 'Blood & Fire', which earned Niney the 1971 award for Jamaica's Record of the Year.  Although he continued to sing, Niney is best known for his outstanding production work during the early 70's for such artists as Slim Smith, Delroy Wilson, Big Youth, Gregory Isaacs, Freddie McGregor, U-Roy, and Dennis Brown.  Many credit Niney for helping DEB earn his title as crowned prince.

During this hour-long interview, Niney reasons extensively with Ireggae about his relationship with Dennis Brown including how he and Dennis used to go up to Slim Smith's camp when Dennis was still very young.  Niney recalls Dennis's first #1 hit 'Westbound Train', and the circumstances surrounding 'Cassandra' which was recorded while DEB was hospitalized with tuberculoses (TB).

Niney also discusses the materials he just recorded for an album to be released by Mafia & Fluxy, as well as a new set of self-produced materials he is working on.  Niney will be making his first California appearance at this year's Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.
